CHALLENGE CONDITIONS  

2008 CHALLENGE CONDITIONS

The 2008 Asian Mile Challenge ("the Challenge") consists of a series of races as described below. The owner of a horse which wins two or more legs of the Challenge will be awarded a bonus.

1. Participating organisations. The Asian Mile Challenge is a series of races conducted by the participating organisations. In 2008, the participating organisations are:
• Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) • Dubai Racing Club (DRC)
• The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) • The Japan Racing Association (JRA)

2. Asian Mile Challenge races. The Asian Mile Challenge consists of a series of races within one calendar year.
In 2008, the Asian Mile Challenge consists of the following races:
• First Leg: Futurity Stakes (MRC) • Second Leg: Dubai Duty Free (DRC)
• Third Leg: Champions Mile (HKJC) • Fourth Leg: Yasuda Kinen (JRA)

3. Nominations for the Bonus. Race nominations* will be made in accordance with the conditions set out in the prospectus for each race as determined by the respective participating organization. A horse may be nominated for any one or more races. A horse that is nominated for the Challenge Bonus must also be nominated to individual Challenge Race. Nominations for the Challenge Bonus will close in four stages, as follows:

Free Nominations: 22 January 2008**
First Late Nomination: 27 February 2008 (Fee: US$50,000)
Second Late Nomination: 24 March 2008 (Fee: US$50,000)
Third Late Nomination: 24 April 2008 (Fee: US$50,000)
* Refer to the conditions for each race for closing dates.

** Horses nominated before Tuesday 22 January 2008 are automatically entered to run in all  
     four AMC races and qualified for the Challenge Bonus.

 As free entry for the Dubai Duty Free closes on 9 January, horses nominated for the AMC    

after 9 January will only be entered in the Futurity Stakes, Champions Mile & Yasuda Kinen. Horses wanting to be entered for the Dubai Duty Free after 9 January need to be supplemented.

 

4. Travel incentives.
Futurity Stakes
MRC and Racing Victoria Limited (RVL) will issue overseas connections a travel incentive payment to assist with horse shipment and costs associated with the travel and accommodation of connections.

Dubai Duty Free
DRC will pay for costs such as costs of travel, accommodation and hospitality for selected overseas horses and connections in accordance with standard procedure for DRC's Dubai World Cup.

Champions Mile
HKJC will pay for costs such as costs of travel, accommodation and hospitality for selected overseas horses and connections in accordance with standard procedure for HKJC's International Races.
 
Yasuda Kinen
The JRA will pay for costs such as costs of travel, accommodation and hospitality for selected overseas horses, in accordance with standard procedure for JRA's International Races.

5. Bonus.
i. A bonus of US$4,000,000 shall be awarded to the owner of a horse that wins all four legs of the Challenge. This bonus is in addition to the prize money for first place in each leg of the Challenge.
ii. A bonus of US$2,000,000 shall be awarded to the owner of a horse that wins (only) three legs of the Challenge. In the event that one horse wins three Challenge races and another horse wins two Challenge races, with a dead-heat for first place between those two horses in one of the Challenge races, the bonus shall be split as follows: US$1,500,000 to the horse that wins three Challenge races, and US$500,000 to the horse that wins two Challenge races.
iii. A bonus of US$1,000,000 shall be awarded to the owner of a horse that wins (only) two legs of the Challenge. If more than one horse wins two legs of the Challenge, the bonus of US$1,000,000 shall be shared equally between the owners of those horses.
iv. The winner(s) of bonus prize money, if any, shall be determined after the running of the fourth and final leg of the Challenge.

vi. The AMC committee reserves the right in its sole discretion to determine the distribution of the bonuses in case of any dead-heat resulting in more than one winner of a Challenge race.
vii. MRC, DRC, HKJC and JRA will each contribute an equal amount of bonus prize money.
viii. Bonus pools do not accumulate.

6. Ballot Exemption.  The winner of the DRC International Rated Stakes 100 and above on 25 January will be invited to run in the 2008 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday March 1 and be exempt from any ballot. The MRC and RVL will issue overseas connections a travel incentive to assist with horse shipment and costs associated with the travel and accommodation for connections.

7. Trophies and other prizes. The winning owner of each Challenge leg will each receive a trophy to record their achievement.

8. Change of Owner. If a horse is sold during the course of the Challenge season, any bonus will go to the Owner of the horse at the time of the last Challenge race won by that horse.

9. Dead-heats.In the case of a dead-heat between horses for first place, each horse that ran the dead-heat shall be deemed a winner of the race.

10. Dead-heats and trophies. In the case of a dead-heat resulting in more than one winner of a Challenge race and owners cannot agree as to which of them is to have the trophy or other prize which cannot be divided, a replica of the trophy or other prize shall be made. The cost of the replica, including manufacture and delivery, shall be divided equally between and paid for by the owners involved. If the owners cannot agree as to the allocation of the original trophy and the replica, the replica shall go to the owner whose delivery address is closest to where the replica is located, while the original trophy will go to the other owner.

11. Disqualification. If a winning horse is disqualified from a Challenge race, whether on race day or subsequently, bonuses will be determined on the revised result.

Any horse disqualified from or prohibited from running in any AMC race as a result of a pre or post race positive test for a prohibited substance (as defined by the racing authorities responsible for that specific race) will be ineligible for any AMC bonus in 2008. Travel subsidies and incentives will also be repayable to the host organization in such a scenario, regardless of whether the positive occurred before or after the race. 

12. Postponement of races. If a Challenge race is postponed to a new date and/or venue in the same calendar year, the race on the revised date will still count towards the Asian Mile Challenge.

13. Transfer of races. If a Challenge race is transferred to another track/venue and the race remains a similar distance, the race will still count towards the Asian Mile Challenge.

14. Abandonment of races and void races. If a Challenge race is abandoned or declared void, the race will not count towards the Asian Mile Challenge. In such case the participating organisations in the Asian Mile Challenge may include an additional race(s) to form part of the Challenge.

15. Renaming of races. In the case of a Challenge race being renamed, the race with the revised name will still be part of the Asian Mile Challenge.

16. Governing Rules. The Futurity Stakes is run under the jurisdiction of Racing Victoria Limited, whose rules of racing constitute the jurisdiction under which the race takes place. The Dubai Duty Free is run under the jurisdiction of Emirates Racing Authority, whose rules of racing constitute the jurisdiction under which the race takes place. The Champions Mile is run under the jurisdiction of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, whose rules of racing constitute the jurisdiction under which the race takes place. The Yasuda Kinen is run under the jurisdiction of the Japan Racing Association, whose rules of racing constitute the jurisdiction under which the race takes place.

17. Inconsistencies. In the case of any inconsistencies among the English, Chinese and Japanese language versions of these Conditions, the English version shall prevail. Details contained in the Challenge Conditions are correct at the time of publication, but the participating organisations reserve the right to make changes post publication without notice.
